LANDIKOTAL: A score of transporters and traders in Khyber Agency held a protest demonstration on Sunday against extortion with them by Afghan officials in various checkpoints in Afghanistan.
Khyber Transporters Union leaders led the protest demonstration held at Takia area on main Pak-Afghan road in Landikotal. Hundreds of transporters beside a large numbers of local tribesmen participated in it.
The protesters were holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans in their favor.They chanted full-throat slogans against Afghan officials.
Addressing on the occasion, transporters union leaders including Shakir Afridi,Attaullah Afridi and Mustaqil Afridi flayed the Afghan officials for their misbehavior with Pakistani truckers.They said when Pakistani transporters enter via Torkham Afghan police starting looting them.
Shakir said Afghan official illegally collect around rupees 40,000 from each Pakistani vehicle at various checkposts.
The protesters accused when they refused to pay the money, were subject to physical torture by the Afghan police. They said several times Afghan authorities tore up their Natonal Identity Cards in Afghanistan.
Attaullah said several Pakistani truck drivers had been brutally tortured by Afghan police on their return from Afghanistan.
The transporters threatened that if Afghan government not take action against the Pakistani transporters harassment till August 25, they observe wheel-jam strike in Pakistan
