Traders want resumption of trade activities via Torkham border

PESHAWAR: Traders and civil society members from Khyber Agency Thursday met with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce and Industries president Zahidullah Shinwari at his office and urged him to raise voice at national and international platforms so that their trade related problems at Torkham border could be resolved.

A five-member traders delegation from Landikotal and Torkham, head by Haji Aslam Shinwari discussed various business and trade related issues with KPCCI president.

A well-known rear estate dealer and builder Asad Khan Shinwari, journalist Ashrafuddin Pirzada, advocated Peshawar high court Qubais Khan Shinwari,Shinwari enterprises chief executive Zalid Shinwari and State Life manager Raz Muhmmad Shinwari were the member of the delegation.

The delegation members told the Zahid that almost seventy percent of their trade with Afghanistan and central Asian countries and local businesses had been severally suffered due to the strict condtions prevailed at Torkham border.

 Aslam Shinwari and Asad requested the KP Chamber head to take their genuine business related issues with the corps commander Peshawar. They said National Logistic Cell gradually taking over all the businesses and trade into their hands while deprived thousands of local residents from their jobless at Torkham border.

The delegation told Zahid Shinwari that write a letter to high-ups including Corps Commander Peshawar, Chief  of Army Staff and Prime Minister of Pakistan to take mercy over the local people of Landikotal and allow the small and medium business activities with the Afghanistan via Torkham border.

Zahid Shinwari said that until and unless the government not generates jobs and business activities in any place it was impossible to maintain peace. He said the war hit Fata areas need to be facilitated with the small and medium industries installation. He added that due to ongoing restricted situation at Torkham border the trade volume with Afghanistan and central Asian countries had been reduced rightly to eighty percent as compared to the last two years back.

Zahid said most the traders both Pakistan and non-Pakistani were struggling to find an alternate route to shift their import and export with Afghanistan via other countries like Iran and Tajikistan etc. He said few days ago he also requested the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor engineer Iqbal Zafar Jhagra that the restriction of business activities with Afghanistan via Torkham border had suffered national economy and it also reduced the export of the Pakistani goods in the European markets.

Zahid Shinwari assured the delegation and said that he would take up their issues with the army high commands and Prime Minister so that they could find a good way to resume trade activities at Torkham border.
