KHYBER AGENCY: The Khyber Agency political administration has Friday announced that they have lifted the four years long curfew from Bara subdivision which was imposed in September 2009.
Speaking to a press conference held at Khyber House the political agent Mutahir Zeb said that all the roads leads to Bara would be opened on Saturday. He said that people could travel on the roads on experimental basis. He said that s the security forces have cleared most of the areas in Bara subdivision including Tirah Maidan and adjacent areas.
“Display of weapons would be strictly prohibited on the main roads in Bara and all the Bara marketplaces would also be reopened if the situation improved,” Mutahir Zeb said and.
PA said that they were taking this step to facilitate the residents of Bara to go to their homes and celebrate Eid.
Mutahir Zeb said that the security forces have established the government writ in Tirah valley and soon the displaced people would return to their native places.
Bara residents and civil society appreciated such step of the political agent and said that the reopening of Bara roads and lifting of the curfew would help restoration of peace in the area.
The local political analysts and media persons have termed it a good omen and positive development that administration has allowed the people to come and go to their homes, however, they urged the authorities that the relief must not be taken as experience and for a limited period rather to make arrangements for the IDPs to go back and settle in their own homes in Bara.
The incessant curfew remained imposed for four years and the roads had been blocked when the military operation was begun in Bara to contain the growing militancy in September 2009. The political agent claimed to have absolutely established peace and controlled the Maidan Bagh in Tirah valley which had been safe haven for the militants. -
