TORKHAM BORDER: Authorities at Torkham border restricted the border crossing after the expiration of December 31 deadline, set for Pakistanis that they will not be permitted to travel to Afghanistan without legal travel documents, sources said on Sunday.
Political tehsildar Torkham, Shamsul Islam, said that as per the directives of high ups they started the implementation of border management policy at 11 am, on January 1st. He said they thoroughly checked and allowed to cross only those who fulfilled the requirements.
However, the official said, the number of passengers from and to Afghanistan were less as compare with the rest of the days last year. He said Landikotal residents, few in number, traveled to Afghanistan after showing only their Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs).
