Military operation is likely in Jamrud

KHYBER AGENCY: Officials have told a Jirga of Kukikhel tribe that security forces are likely to launch a military operation in various parts of Jamrud tehsil in Khyber Agency.
The officials asked Kukikhel tribesmen to support the authorities in maintaining peace in the area.
Addressing the Jirga at Jamrud Pump House on 23 July, Khyber Agency’s Political Agent Shahab Ali Shah and Swat Scouts Commandant Colonel Asim Rauf said the area had been witnessing militant activities, target killings and bomb blasts for the last several years.
They said they had decided to carry out a military operation to purge the area of anti-social elements.
The army official said the local residents should not vacate their houses during the operation because the forces may demolish a vacated house.
“If a family vacated the house, militants might sneak into the building,” he added.
The commandant asked Kukikhel tribesmen to support the security forces for peace in their area. Tribal elders asked for two day time and convened a jirga of their tribe to discuss the issue.
