PTI leader escapes assassination bid in Khyber

KHYBER AGENCY: A Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf Khyber Agency leader and social worker escaped unhurt when militants opened fire on him outside his hujra (male guests) house in Ghundi area of Jamrud tehsil of Khyber Agency,official  and family sources said on Saturday.

 Yaqub Khan Afridi, brother of  PTI Khyber Agency chapter leader and prominent social worker Shehzad Khan Afridi, told reporters that his brother was coming home by his car on Friday night around 7pm when two motorcycles intercepted him. He said that as Shehzad reached village in Ghundi  the gunmen opened fire on him.Luckily  Shahzad Khan escaped unhurt and entered home. Yaqub said the militants after several shoot fires were insisting the villagers to handover Shahzad to them which they also raise arms on the militants. He said the scuffle was continue for several minutes and then managed to flee from the scene, the sources said.
Later, Khasadar force personnel reached the site and searched the area.
When contacted Shahzad Khan Afridi, he said that he had received several threatening phone calls since last few months. He said that always the callers were demanding f money which he rejected many times. He said that he lodged FIR in Jamrud administration and Hayatabad police station. Family of Shahzad demanded of the government and security forces to provide them foolproof security.
Jamrud administration confirmed the incident and said they have launched investigation to reach to the culprits. It may be added here that some three month s ago unknown people had blown up with explosives the under construction home of Shahzad Khan Afridi in Ghundi village.
