LANDIKOTAL: Authorities at Torkham border seized thousands of litres wine while Jamrud Khasadars foiled a bid to smuggle sugar to Afghanistan, official sources said.
The sources said that a truck(2693-GLT) which was carrying carrying vegetables to Afghanistan was stopped at Torkham border and recovered 2,940 litres wine from it. The wine were concealed in tins. The crew members of the truck were arrested on the spot and sent them to Landikotal lockup along with their truck, sources said.
Meanwhile, Jamrud administration during routine checking recovered 200 bags of sugar from the hidden cavities of a truck in Takhta baig check post, official soruces said. Political tehsildar Jamrud Shakeel Khan told The News that they had received tip off that smugglers were trying to smuggle different daily commodities to Afghanistan as they were checking trucks at Takhta Baig. He said they took the truck into their custody and arrested the driver.
