Khugakhel elders opposed terminal construction on Torkham border
LANDIKOTAL: The tribal elders have said that they would not tolerate the construction work on the Torkham border town without their consent as it was the common property of the thousands of Khugakhel Shinwari tribesmen.
The Khugakhel Shinwari elder, Malik Tahir flanked by other elders and Mashran Malik Tajuddin,Malik Taqdeer,Mirajuddin,Zar Nabi and Sameen told a press conference here on Sunday that government has started trucks terminal on their tribe land on the Torkham border town. The elders said Torkham border town is their common property inherited them from their forefathers.
Malik Tajuddin said they were not against the developmental projects but government should take all the stakeholders on board before launching any project on the border town.Zar Nabi and Samin said they would not accept and will protest against the truck terminal's construction without their consultation and consent.The elders said construction of trucks terminal initiated on the private property on the Torkham border would not be allowed.
The elders threatened that any step taken towards the construction of the project would lead to disappointment among them and would be strongly condemned. They said occupation on the private land is immoral and violation of their rights which would be protested at every forum. The tribesmen reminded that they had always provide their full support and cooperation to National Highway Authorities(NHA) whenever it initiate development projects after their consent in Torkham border.
The Khugakhel elders asked the authorities concerned that they should address their reservations and the matter should be resolved through proper preset principles between them and the government. The elder asked the political administration and Pakistan Army officials to avoid construction work on terminal on the Torkham border town without the prior permission and consultation of the Khugakhel tribesmen.It May be added here that government had planned to construct trucks terminal on the dozens of acros of the land at Torkham bordr twon worth billion of rupees which the Khugakhel elders claiming ownership of the land.
