LANDIKOTAL: Zakhakhel tribesmen banned polio vaccination teams in
their area and announced complete boycott from anti-polio campaigns.
Hundreds of Zakhakhel tribesmen including school children and girls
protested on Pak-Afghan highway on Monday and suspended all kinds of
traffic for two hours.
The protestors were chanting full-throat slogans against TESCO and
political administration officials. They were demanded reducing the
prolonging and un-scheduled load shading in Landikotal tehsil.
Talking to reporters, Shakir Afridi, Ghafoor Afridi and Zarawar Khan
Afridi, who were leading the protesters, said that their women had to
fetch portable water from very far flung mountains' streams. They said
that several times their elders requested the assistant political
agent to resume electricity for few hours to run the tubewells due to
no avail.
Meanwhile, officials of the Landikotal came to the protesters and
assured them for resolving their issues. The protesters told the
officials that they will not allow any polio team in their area until
the electricity was not resolved. The protesters called a jirga of all
Zakhakhel sub-tribes on at 5 p.m. to chalk out the next strategy if
their problems were not addressed.
