Journalists, MNA cousin shot dead in Landikotal


LANDIKOTAL: Unknown people shot dead cousin of The News Landikotal correspondent and Member of the National Assembly (MNA) in Landikotal subdivision in Khyber agency, family and official sources said on Saturday.

Shamsul Amin Pirzada, cousin of the slain boy, told The News that Akhtar Ali Pirzada, 8, and other family member were taking a pregnancy patient to Landikotal hospital at 3:45 am when several gunmen ambushed their car near Speen Jumaat area on Landikotal-Shalman road. The assailants opened indiscriminate firing on their car.  Akhtar Ali Pirzada, who was the student of grade 2, sustained several bullets wounds. However, two other women and driver were remained safe in the attack. He was rushed to Agency Headquarters hospital in Landikotal where he could not survived, sources said. The assailants fled the scene in two corolla cars after committing the heinous crime; he said. The slain boy was laid to rest in Pirokhel graveyard at 11 am. Akhtar Ali Pirzada was the cousin of The News Landikotal correspondent, Ashrafuddin Pirzada, senior reporter Akmal Khan Qadri and MNA Noorul Haq Qadri.

Meanwhile, security forces and local administration conducted joint search operation in different areas of Landikotal and arrested seventeen suspected militants, official sources said. So far security forces have arrested several suspected militants including important militant commanders in Landikotal, an official said on the condition of anonymity to The News. He said that they have broken militants’ network in Landikotal which were planning to carry out attacks on government installation and other public places. However, he did not disclosed the names and identities of the arrested due to security reasons.
