LANDIKOTAL: Twenty-nine people including three security forces personnel and children were killed while, 42 others seriously injured when a huge blast occurred in a pickup van in Jamrud bazaar in Khyber agency, eyewitness and official sources said on Tuesday.
An eyewitness shopkeeper, Ghairat Shah Afridi, told The News that he was busy in his shop near to the taxi stand in petrol pump when a huge blast occurred at 10: 30 am. He said that as the explosion taken place a thick dust speared around shops. He said that he rushed to the site and saw only body parts everywhere. Most of the killed and injured were belonging from the Zakhakhel tribe, he confirmed. The bomb was fitted with a pickup van which was parked inside the Bazaar taxi stand situated in the petrol pump in Jamrud bazaar, he said.
As the explosion was heard security forces, bomb disposal squad and rescue workers rushed to the site and shifted the dead and injured persons to Jamrud, Hayatabad Medical Complex, Khyber Teaching and Lady Reading hospitals in Peshawar. Four rocket bullets and two hundred kilograms explosives were used in the explosion, BDS official said.
A state of emergency was declared in the hospitals as most of the injured persons were stated critical,hospital sources said. An emergency attendant at Hayatabad Medical Complex, Anas Yusufzai, told The News on phone from Hayatabad Medical Complex that the death toll may be rise as most of the injured persons are serious.
The three Kasadar force personnel killed in the blast were identified as, Noor Shad, Raja Gul, Lance Niak Wazir Gul and their civil driver Alam Said.The other bodies were identified as, Raj Gul,Khan Afridi, Gul Jabeen and Khayal Noor,residents of Landikotal, Millat Khan of Hangu, Zedan Afridi,Jan Baz, Jamil Afridi,Qalat Khan afridi and his son Mahaz Khan Afridi, Saddiq Khan Afridi, Gul Bahadar, Muhammad Rasool, Masta Khan Khan, Dolas Khan, Sameen Khan, Lal Mar Jan and eight year old Saddam Hussain, residents of Bazaar Zakhakhel areas in Tirah valley.
The injured persons were identified as,Zahid, Khayal Muhammad, Manzoor, Fazl Amin,Salwat, Abdur Raziq, Muhammad Amin Ihsanullah,Abdru Raziq #2, Zaitoon, Adil, Kafil Shah, Ajira Bibi, Mir Khitab,Haji Gul, Khan Zeb,Bilal, Sajjad, Lal Zamir, shahzada, Hidayatullah, yasmina Bibi, Gul Hamida Bibi and Faqir Jan.
Khasadar force Line officer, Gula jan told this scribe that the bomb was fitted with an pickup van which was standing in the Tirah Zakhakhel's taxi terminal. Ten vehicles standing at the taxi stand and the petrol pump had been destroyed in the explosion.
Political agent, Mutahir zeb later visited the injured persons in hospitals and announced Rs, fifty-thousands for injured and 0.1 million for the deceased.
Tariq Afridi group of TTP spokesman, Muhammad, called to media persons from unknown location said that TTP Tariq group condamned the attack carried out in Jamrud. He said that they will investigate the attack and would punish the the culprits involved in the killing of people in Jamrud car bomb blast. He rejected the media channels reports that every time had accepted responsibility and rejected any involvement in it.
