LANDIKOTAL : Two schoolchildren were killed and eleven others including children and elders were injured when a remote control bomb went off at the front gate of a hujra in Khugakhel area in Landikotal
subdivision in Khyber agency, official and local sources said on Saturday.
The sources said that unknown people had planted a remote controlled bomb at the front gate of the hujra or male guest house of Haji Rasool Jan Fatimikhel in Khugakhel area which went off as the Khugakhel tribe
elders were leaving the venue, sources said. The elders had organized an entire-tribe jirga to tender the Khugakhel tribe Torkham border terminal, sources said.
Two schoolboys,identified as Rashid,7 and Dilawer,9, returning from a nearby private school, were killed on the spot,while thirteen others including elders received splinters injuries,sources said. Those injured in the blast were Aziz, Amir, Shah Saood, Ilyas, Sameem, Malik Tahir,Masood, six year old Sheema, Abdullah,Nazaqat and Shafiq.The injured persons were rushed to agency Headquarters hospital in Landikotal, wherefrom, five seriously injured persons were referred to hospitals in Peshawar, hospital sources said . Sheema, who was also injured in the blast told The News in Landikotal hospital that she was returning from her school on foot
when heard a huge blast and fell down. She said that after the blast she did not know what happened with them.
"It was a remote control blast and probably the Khugakhel Qaomi jirga holding meeting was the target, however, they could not nominate any one or a militant group responsible for such attack", a political
official told this scribe while pleading anonymity. No group has so far claimed responsibility of the blast.
It may be added here that militants have resumed their mal-practices in Khyber agency especially in Landikotal during the last three weeks of December as it was the last deadliest attack of 2011 in Landikotal which killed two innocent school children.
