FWO says Pak-Afghan highway works would be completed till the end of 2014

LANDIKOTAL: The Frontier Works Organization (FWO) officials Monday said the 20 months back started repairing and widening work on Pak-Afghan highway would be completed till the end of 2014.

Major Haseenullah, while briefing the local journalists over the ongoing repairing works on Pak-Afghan highway, said the 44 Kilometers road repairing  project would cost US dollars 77 million. He said that the US government was providing financial support for the whole project. Haseenullah said the project has been divided into seven phases, adding that the repairing of 16 kilometers, which is the first phase from Karkhano Markets to Sur Kamar in Jamrud, had been completed and was opened for traffic.
"Cutting, leveling and other technical formalities of maximum parts of the Pak-Afghan highway has been completed. And till the end of current year the rest of 35 kilometers road between Peshawar Karkhano Market to Landikotal bazaar would be completed", said Major Haseenullah. 
Major Haseenullah said they were awared of  grievances and problems being faced by residents.He said  it was technical and engineering task to complete construction work and doing their all efforts for the wellbeing of the travellers.
The FWO official said after the completion of Pak-Afghan highway would not only provide advance traveling facilities but would enhance Pakistan’s trade with Afghanistan and Central Asian countries.         
Jamrud residents thanked FWO workers and officials for timely completion of first phase work of the project in Jamrud.They said the construction work of the road provided them relief in traveling to Peshawar. They said it was a big issue since long for them to travel safely on the road. 
However, Landikotal inhabitants felt frustration over the slow pace over the Pak-Afghan road work. Malik Abdullah Khan, a local resident said FWO workers in Khyber Zakhakhel area  had been set off at certain points which had multiplied miseries of the local people.
