Arms seized at Pak-Afghan border

Ashrafuddin Pirzada PAKISTAN: Pakistan Customs authorities at Torkham border crossing foiled a bid to smuggle weapons from Afghanistan,officials said on Saturday. Addtional Custom collector Torkham Muhammad Tayyab told media that on the basis of prior tip-off they stopped the empty truck(KBL-3257) as it crossed the Torkham border and entered Pakistan. He said the truck was returning from Afghanistan unloading export goods in Kabul. He said during search they recovered four Russian-made AK-47 guns, two US-made M4 guns,one piece binocular being fixed on sniper gun and thousands of bullets rounds of different guns from the hidden cavities of the truck. The custom official said taking advantage of rush of people the truck driver fled from the scene. However,he said the truck was in their custody. He said they had issued directives for the arrest of the driver at all custom and police personnel deployed at checking points in Pakistan. Muhammad Tayyab said they had kept a close watch on the Torkham border crossing to block weapons and narcotics smuggling from Afghanistan.
