TORKHAM: To help control the illegal movement across the Torkham border officials extended the registration date while more than six hundred afghan nationals have been registered during the last one week,NLC official said on Tuesday.
Senior manager Torkham National Logistic Cell (NLC) Col,(R)Iftikharuddin Shinwari told The News that political agent of Khyber Agency had fixed October 10 the last date for registeration. He said the time for registeration was extened for unlimited time so that more Afghans could be registered. He said aim of the Gatepasses was to regulate illegal cross border movemnt of the Afghan citizens.
Shinwari said the process had been started on 23 September to legalize Afghan citizens while entering into Pakistan.
He said staff deficiency in Torkham NADARA office was the main reason which cause slow registration process,adding that total 612 persons have been so far registered who would soon be released their gate passes.
The NLC official said all the Afghan citizens would need a Pakistani gauranter before issue him or her the gatepass.
Shinwari said those who violate or over stay in Pakistan would be arrested.
The official separate counter for female and other services have been provided for the Afghan nationals in the registration.
Passport officer at Torkham Muhammad Irshad Mohmand told The News that every Afghan would go through bio-metric process.
Irshad said the process would be continue for many months so that maximum people could get gatepass. He however said Pakistan citizens and Afghan nationals with valid travel documents were exempted to get that card.
When contacted Afghan border officials said that they were not agree with the Pakistani authorities to issue them gate passes.
Sources in Afghanistan told this scribe that Afghan border authorities were not ready to accept such restrictions created on the Torkham border.He said Afghan border officials tore many receipts issued by NADRA to Afghan citizens for gatepasses.
