LANDIKOTAL: At least five persons including three security personnel were injured in scuffle took place between Khugakhel residents and tribal police to disperse the angry mob and resume traffic on Landikotal bypass road they had blocked to record their protest against hours long power outrage in Landikotal,sources said on Sunday.
Israr Ahmad Shinwari led the protest demonstration organized at Landikotal bypass road jn Landikotal. Hundreds of Khugakhel residents including children and an aged woman Islama Bibi also took part in the hours long protest,sources said.
The protesters were holding black flags and chanted slogans against the Tribal Electricity Supply Company(TESCO)officials for the hours long electricity load shedding that accoring to them had mafe their life hard in Landikotal. They also put heavy stones on the road to suspend traffic on Peshawar-Torkham highway for all kinds of traffic.
Meanwhile,Khasadars and levies force personnel came to the site to control the situation and resume traffic on the road. Long queues of loaded and empty trucks and passenger coaches were seen on the road waiting for the road reopening in Landikotal that suffered passengers and patients.
Sensing the situation and stones hurled by protesters Khasadars and Levies personnel started aerial firing to disperse the protesters,sources confirmed.
The angry mob also returned stones on the Khasadars and levies personnel,injuring three Khasadar,sources said.
Talking to mediamen, Israr Ahmad Shinwari said that Khasadars and levies personnel tortured the peaceful protesters and misbehaved with them.He accused that two of the protesters were also injured in the scuffle with Khasadars.
After four hours long scuffle and road blockade talks between the protesters and the administration officials took place and road was reopened for traffic after.
An agreement was inked between the parties through which Tesco would ensure electricity supply for two more hours in Landikotal.Assistant commissioner assured the Khugakhel tribesmen that he would conduct an inquiry against those security personnel who allegedly involved in aerial firing.
Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami workers and leaders also staged a rally in Landikotal bazaar against the prolonged power outrage in Landikotal.
JI leader Ziaul Haq Afridi,Abdur Rauf Shinwari and other leaders spoke on the occasion.They also condemned the security personnel firing on a peaceful protest in which woman and children were taking part.
They said that tehsildar and assistant commissioner of Landikotal failed to serve the residents. The JI leaders accused tehsildar and AC that they most of the time remain out of their offices to address their problems.
The speakers said in the past few months a numbers of protests demons were held for legal and constitutional rights of Landikotal residents but the officials were not taking it serious.
