400 archaeological sites discovered in Khyber agency

KHYBER AGENCY(FATA): A senior Khyber Agency official on Thursday said that they have completed an archaeological survey in Jamrud subdivision in Khyber Agency and found more than four hundred archaeological sites of different ancient religions.
Speaking to a press conference held at Khyber House in Peshawar political agent of Khyber Agency Khalid Mehmood said they conduct a first ever archaeological survey in Jamrud tehsil of Khyber Agency. 
He said with the technical support of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa directorate of archaeology and Museum department a full-fledged survey was conducted. He said they found thirty thousand years old ancient sites. He said they also found eight Budha sites while 110 others archaeological sites. 

Khalid Mehmood thanked Pakistan’s army for providing them security during the time of survey.
He said the same kind of survey would also be conducted in,Tirah,Landikotal,Bara and other Fata places  so that they could start the preservation work on the historical assets. 

The official said that tribal areas had not only served as routes used by invaders like Alexander the Great, but the Kushans, the Scythians and the British have used these routes leaving marks at different parts of the tribal areas.
Abdul Samad, an archaeological official, said due to militancy in Fata they could not preserved the ancient sites. He said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa archaeological department would help Khyber Agency administration to renovate and repair the site so that national and international tourists could visit there.
Samad urged the Fata secretariat to establish an archaeological department and save the historical assets from seasonal damages. He said archaeologists believe that tribal areas were rich enough archaeological sites.
