Pakistan-US Alumni Network arranged workshop on "New Media and Conflict Reporting"

PESHAWAR:Pakistan-US Alumni Network with collaboration of Institute of Management Science arranged a day-long training workshop for media practitioners and journalism students here on Thursday.

The workshop, titled "New Media and Conflict Reporting", was arranged in Lincoln Reading Corner at IM Sciences which was attended by a large number of Peshawar university journalism department students,tribal reporters,media practitioners, and ICFJ fellows.

International Centre for Journalists(ICFJ)fellows Rahat Shinwari, Farhad Shinwari and lecturer Ali Imran Bangash of Peshawar university journalism department.
The speakers on the occasion said that reporters in Fata and KP were facing different kinds of threats while  covering news stories in the militancy hit areas.
Lecturer Ali Imran Bangash said that tribal journalists need to be well trained specifically covering conflict zones. He said 14 of the senior journalists from Fata have lost their lives in the line of duty due to  lake of professional education in journalism field.

Farhad told about the steps which could minimize the threats level being faced by the journalists.He said  militancy suffered areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata were badly suffered of the last ten year long militancy.He said around 64 state-run girls and boys schools in Khyber Agency have been destroyed in different kinds of militancy related incidents.
Rahat Shinwari urged the journalism students and media practitioners to use social media for a brighter change in the society. 
The speakers told the participants that with the passage of time media trends have been gradually changing which made possible for all to become citizen journalists.
