4 militants,3 Khasadar killed in Jamrud checkpost attack


KHYBER AGENCY: Four militants were killed while three Khasadars also embraced martyrdom when at least two dozens of gunmen attacked Hawaldarai checkpost in Sur Kamar area of Jamrud Tehsil in Khyber Agency, local and official sources said on Thursday.

The sources said that at least two dozens gunmen equipped with automatic and heavy weapons launched attack around 1:50am at Hawaldarai checkpost,the security forces checkpost situated on the main Pak- Afghan highway in Jamrud Sur Kamar area.

According to an independent source, the militants had besieged the checkpost for some time and were using indiscriminate fire at the checkpost.The Khasadar personnel also retaliated for some time,he
said.

"I heard small and big sounds of fire from different sides when the attack was launched on the checkpost using small and heavy weapons for several minutes",said i local resident who heard the sounds of the bullet fires from the nearby locality. He said that as the gun fire stopped after few minutes it again started when a contingent of paramilitary forces came for the support of the Khasadar force
personnel.

The security forces repulsed the attack as Frontier Crops soldiers came to the spot. Four of the attackers were killed and as many injured in the attack, sources said. However, the rest of the
militants escaped from the scene.

 Three Khasadar officials, identified as Naib Line Officer Shaokat Khan Afridi,who was recently promoted as Naib Line Officer by the current assistant political agent Jamrud ,Sepoy Abdul Basir and Sepoy
Shamshad Afridi embraced martyrdom. According to Inter Services Public Relation (ISPR) four paramilitary officials including Capton Umar were also injured in the attack. Assistant Political AgentJamrud, Roshan Wazir, condemned the attack and praised the bravery of the slain Khasadars who did not lay down their weapons before the militants and fight for the last drop of
their blood. He also thanked the Frontier Crops soldiers for their quick response to the attack.

Later, the funeral prayers of the slain Khasadars were offered which was attended by the Jamrud APA and other officials. The slain Khasadars were laid to rest in their respective graveyards in Jamrud Khyber
Agency.
It may be added here that several attacks had been carried out on the security forces checkposts in Jamrud during the last few months claiming several lives of the security forces and other local
tribesmen.
