polio workers sought release of their wages


LANDIKOTAL: Health workers hired on daily wages for the anti-polio campaigns in Landikotal have sought the WHO officials to release their wages.
Senior polio workers,Farman,Inayatullah and Sharfuddin flanked by dozens of others Polio workers told a press conference here on Tuesday that they had hired 113 private polio workers on daily wages.Farman said the hired persons have been playing vital role in anti-polio campaign.Inayatullah said despite any reason ironically World Health Organization(WHO) freezed wages of the poor anti-polio workers.
Sharfuddin came harsh over the officials' role said that they had taken risk of life  and performed duty during the last  two polio campaigns.He said if the wages of 113  were not released before Eid they would be compelled to start a series of protests.He said compel their families on starvation.The aggrieved health workers said that their services were intentionally neglecting by the WHO officials. They threatened that if the WHO, Fata health directorate  and other concerned authorities not address their legal demand and grievances on priority basis they would boycott the coming  anti-polio campaigns scheduled from the August 19.
The anti-polio campaigns' workers were of the view that Khyber Agency was red-zone for health officials where hundreds of infants would be deprived if they announce boycott from the coming anti-polio campaigns.
When Agency surgeon Dr,Samen Shinwari, was contacted on the issue he said that the health workers have been already asked to submit their written demand at the  agency surgeon office for further proceeding.Dr Samin said when they receive the written complaint could be raised up with the World Health Organization(WHO) officials.He said that although WHO officials have asked the Fata health officials to fire the 113 Polio workers hired on daily wages.Dr Samin assured that he will take up the case with the concern officials.It may be added here that the number of polio victims in Khyber Agency raised to eight in 2013 when twelve months old Maryam was  declared polio patient in Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency.
