"Officials severing in Fata are 50% corrupt" ,says Siraj


FATA: An official of the North Waziristan political administratin had disclosed that 50 percent officials serving in the tribal region were corrupt and responsible for the under-development of the area.
The North Waziristan Agency Political Agent, Siraj Ahmad Khan, alleged on Friday the officials severing as tribal administrators were 50 % corrupt and he made responsible them for all the bad law and order situation prevailing in the tribal regions. He disclosed that most of the funds allocated in the previous Annual Development Programme (ADP) had mostly been embezzled by the government officials.
He was talking to a tribal jirga at his office. “It is shameful but let me admit that funds meant for developing Waziristan have gone into the pockets of the corrupt government officials,” he alleged.
The political agent said an inquiry into embezzlement of public fund had been initiated and Rs2 million had been recovered from one of the senior officials of a government department. He assured the tribal elders that all those involved in misuse of public funds would be taken to task.
PA NW Agency while talking to a tribal jirga said that 40-50 percent only of the previous ADP had been spent and that too to serve the interests of some influential people. He asked the tribal to fight for their rights and bring the corrupt officials to the court of justice. Referring to corruption in one such development project carried out in Maizar area in Dattakhel subdivision to provide drinking water to the villagers from nearby mountains, he said only Rs500,000 out of Rs7 million allocated for the project had been spent on the water scheme while the rest of money went into pockets of the corrupt government functionaries.
Siraj Ahmad Khan said Rs130 million had been allocated in the new ADP for North Waziristan and assured the tribal jirga that every penny would be spent for their welfare
