PUAN arranges cleanliness campaign in the university campus

BARA GALI: A three-day grand reunion of Pakistan-US Amuni Network (PUAN) concluded here in Bara Gali with the message that a "clean and net environment is the foremost guarantee to promote tourism culture in Pakistan".



More than 300 Pakistan-US alumnus aging from 14 to 70 years participated in the reunion held after four years in Bara Gali. The aim of the gathering was to recognize the contributions of Pakistan-U.S alumni Network (PUAN) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa-FATA chapter and bring together different walks of life to develop a network to play role for betterment of people.



Around 330 students, journalists, lawyers, business leaders, doctors, civil society members, engineers and young leaders participated in the event. They shared their experiences and renewed their commitment to work for uplift and better Pakistan.



Talking to The News PUAN KP-FATA chapter president Waheedullah Mohmand said that organizing even for all alumni is to share their ideas and experiences. He said educating the people with different professional backgrounds help build a more secure and prosperous Pakistan.

Waheed said alumni named Aamir Khalil played an important role in polio eradication in Peshawar. He said Aamir with his own resources and efforts conduct various polio awareness walks,seminars and other events to motivate parents to administer polio drops to their children.

He said PUAN now has over 25,000 members from across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and tribal districts. He said the United States had provided more than 18,000 college scholarships for Pakistani students. He added that they arrange educational, social and cultural events time to time.



 Naeem Safi, a tourism experts working with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa tourism department encouraged participants to volunteer and promote tourism in Pakistan. He said the cleanliness campaign would not encourage the participants to keep their surroundings clean but it would also motivate others to come forward and contribute for a healthy environment.



Besides lectures, presentations and social networking the participants also took part in stage drams, cleanliness campaign in university campus, walk and arranged a cultural night. A minute silence and candlelight vigil was also held for a 17-year-old Pakistan student Sabika Sheikh who was among the other 10 schoolchildren killed in the Sante Fe High School shooting in Taxas United States.



 It may be mentioned here that KP-Fata PUAN chapter organized dozens of community service activities in the fields of education, leadership development and women’s empowerment



The United States government annually invests more than 4.8 billion rupees in exchange programs for Pakistani citizens to study in the United States.  Each year around 1,000 Pakistanis participate in high school, undergraduate, graduate and professional take part in the US sponsored exchange programmes.
