PESHAWAR: Tribal Union of Journalists
(TUJ) Khyber Agency chapter distributed Eid package among journalists hailing
from Landikotal, Jamrud and Bara subdivision of Khyber Agency.
A distribution ceremony was held on
Tuesday in main TUJ office in Peshawar where large number tribal elders,
political parties’ leaders and journalists from Khyber agency were present.
Speaking on the occasion, TUJ
Khyber President Mehboob Shah Afridi praised the important role being played by
the tribal journalists. He said several of the tribal journalists rendered sacrifices
for the sake of homeland but never bow down before the false powers. He said
more than 30 journalists have been shifted to Peshawar other safer zones due to
threats to their lives but gave voice to the voiceless people in Fata. He said despite
several challenges tribal journalists were taking risk and support the
government and the security forces so that peace could be restored in Fata.
Mehboob urged the government both
federal and provincial to help tribal people especially Fata journalists. He said
tribal journalists were regularly disseminating news without fear and favor from
Fata to help out 80 million people in Fata from militancy and terrorism. He urged
his colleagues to concentrate on their sincere and honest reporting as tribal
areas were passing from such a critical phase of the history.
Mehboob said that for the first
time TUJ from its limited resources managed to give Eid package to journalists
hailing from Khyber.
The Eid package handed over to all the Khyber Agency based journalists
were included sweets and backers, beverage (Rooh Afza), soap and washing powder,
shoe polish, hair oil and other goods for the journalists’ children.
Tribal people and political parties’
leaders lauded TUJ for its generosity and urged to extend its circle to other tribal
journalists in Fata.
