50 profiteers, substandard foods dealers booked in Landikotal



LANDIKOTAL: On the repeated complaints of local consumers the government-owned price control committee came into force and arrested 50 profiteers and substandard foods dealers in Landikotal bazaar of Khyber Agency, official said on Saturday.
Landikotal Assistant Political Agent Muhammad Tayyab Abdullah told The News by phone that they in the command of political Tehsildar Daftar Khan comprised a team of health, sanitation and food inspectors who raided different shops and market places and checked the price control lists, hygienic condition of cocked foods and other commodities selling in Landikotal bazaar.
APA said the inspection team went through various  shops of cocked foods, meat, mutton, fishes, fast and spicy foods. He said 50 shopkeepers were found guilty who were charging extra from consumers and selling unhealthy foods. Tayyab said several of the arrested shopkeepers were charged in selling substandard and unhygienic fast and spicy foods.
The official said that they on the very first day of the holy month of Ramazan had served notices and price controlled lists in the Landikotal bazaar warning the profiteers a fine and jail. He said the arrested foods dealers were put behind the bars for two days and impose fine of Rs 5,000 on each person.
