A day long simira which was organized by the National Research and Development Foundation (NRDF) in Landikotal jirga hall.The semira titled with "Mother, Child health and role of Ulemas" was attened by Health officials, Dr.Wazir Akbar,Dr.Sher Amin,Agency Health Communication Support Officer(AHCSO)Dr.Irfan,Polio Eradication Officer(PEO),Maullan Jahanzeb(NRDF) and religious scholars, Ulemas,elites and Maliks of the area participated in the seminar. The religious scholars urged the people to supported the Polio eradication campaign and considered it semblance to the teaching of Islam. They called upon the masses to administer polio drops to their children as religious duty and save a big population from the fatal disease. They also pledged to assist the government machinaries to root out the crippling disease.
Qari Zabihullah, Mufti Zia-ur-Rehman and Maulana Jahanzeb thoroughly highlighted the importance of Polio campaigns in religious perspective said that it was obligatory on the parents to administered anti-polio drops to their children."The religious scholars of Pakistan and the Muslim World in unanimous verdict had declared the drops legal( halal)for the Muslims and had asked the Muslim community to feed the drops to their infants" Mufti Zia-ur-Rehman said. The gathering was also addressed by Dr, Irfan and Wazir Akbar who medically explained all aspects of the Polio to the audiences and answered their questions.They stressed the general populous to come forward and assist them to eradicate the curse, Polio from the country till 2012 end. At the end up-coming Polio campaign scheduled to be held from 19th to 22nd of the current month was formally inaugurated by administered polio drops to the children. Dr.Sher Amin told The News that in the up-coming campaign total 92813 children below five years had been targeted to be vaccinated and for this purpose 241 mobile, 16 fixed and 5 transit teams had been fanalised, he added. The campaign would launched in Jamrud ,Malagori and some rested areas of Bara and Tirah,however he added,Landikotal is exempted in the campaign because in the recent past two emergency campaigns had been conducted there due to exposure of a Polio case there. He appealed to all segment of the society to support them to achieve their target.
“It is the duty of every citizen to motivate the parents of children below five years especially the refusals to feed polio vaccine to their children, so that make Pakistan free of polio” Sher Amin urged. It is worth mentioning here that 17 polio cases have been so far detected in Khyber agency during 2011.
